Location: White Pine County, ~20 miles from Ely, NV
Land Management Agency: Bureau of Land Management Ely Field Office

Plots: Three 40-acre core plots (Control, Burn, Mechanical) plus a 15-acre hydrology study plot
Elevation: 7000-7400 ft
Topography: 6-20% slopes of varying aspect
Common Vegetation: Utah juniper, singleleaf pinyon pine, Wyoming big sagebrush, black sagebrush, green rabbitbrush, bitterbrush, bluebunch wheatgrass, Sandberg bluegrass, Indian ricegrass, needleandthread, Nevada needlegrass, long-leaf phlox, mat buckwheat, cushion buckwheat, yellow eyed cryptantha, speckle-pod milkvetch
Soils: fine-loamy and loamy-skeletal, mixed, mesic
Fire Regime: Historical fire return interval of 30-40 years. Woodland invasion and canopy closure have significantly increased the risk of less frequent, catastophic fire in these communities.
Representative Land Base: Vast acreages in both the High Central and High Calcareous Provinces
Grazing: Plots are located on an active grazing allotment, and have been fenced for the duration of the study to exclude livestock.
