Great Basin Vegetation

Sagebrush, juniper and a variety of native forbs and bunchgrasses characterize the vegetation of the Great Basin. In recent years, non-native cheatgrass has also spread across the Great Basin, influencing the fire regime and competing with native species for limited water and nutrients. To learn more about how vegetation influences fire patterns see our page on Plants and the Potential for Wildfire.
